Three Women Apppointed to Provost Posts at Campuses of California State University

Katherine Kantardjieff was named provost at California State University, Monterey Bay, effective July 1. She has been serving as the founding dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at California State University, San Marcos. Dr. Kantardjieff has been part of the California State University System for more than three decades and has been at the San Marcos campus since 2011.

Dr. Kantardjieff received bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and biology from the University of Southern California. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Jenn Capps has been appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California. She begins her new role on August 1. Dr. Capps has been serving as dean of the College of Professional Studies and as a professor of criminology and criminal justice at Metropolitan State University in Denver.

Professor Capps earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. She holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology and a doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Colorado at Denver.

Carolyn Thomas has been appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs at California State University, Fullerton, effective July 15. She is vice provost and dean of undergraduate education at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Thomas has been a member of the UC Davis faculty since 2001 and became vice provost and dean in 2013.

Dr. Thomas is a graduate of California State University, Fullerton, where she majored in American studies and German. She holds a Ph.D. in American studies from the University of Texas at Austin.
