Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.
The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York, announced that it had received a $1.2 million grant from The Pussycat Foundation for the BOLD Women’s Leadership Network. Currently, 14 students at the college are BOLD Scholars. The Pussycat Foundation was established by Helen Gurley Brown, the long-time editor of Cosmopolitan magazine.
The U.S. Small Business Administration is offering $300,000 in grants to provide entrepreneurship training for women veterans, women service members, and women military spouses. Nonprofit organizations, state and local agencies, and institutions of higher education are eligible to compete for the funding. Up to six programs or organizations will be selected this year to receive grants administered by the Small Business Administration’s Office of Veterans Business Development and will participate in the Women Veteran Entrepreneurship Program. The grants provided to the organizations will help cover the costs of educating women service members and veterans and women military spouses that either already own a small business or are interested in starting one. More information about the grant opportunity is available here.
The American Indian College Fund received a four-year, $300,000 grant from the Henry Luce Foundation. The grant will provide scholarships for four women seeking a bachelor’s degree in the hard sciences at a four-year, degree-granting tribal college or university. Students will receive $18,750 each year.
