Three Women Appointed to Dean Positions at Major Universities

Annmarie Caño will be the next dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. She will begin her new job on July 1. Dr. Caño currently serves as associate provost for faculty development and faculty success at Wayne State University in Detroit.
A daughter of immigrant parents, Dr. Caño was raised in New York City. She received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Princeton University in New Jersey. She then went on to earn a master’s degree and a doctoral degree in psychology from Stony Brook University in New York.
Kathrin Engisch has been named interim dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Engisch is an associate professor of neuroscience, cell biology, and physiology and previously served as associate dean from 2012 to 2015 and interim dean of the college from 2015 to 2016.
Dr. Engisch obtained a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and a Ph.D. in neural science from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
Sonja S. Watson was appointed dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Texas Chrisitan University in Fort Worth. She will begin her new duties in May. Dr. Watson is currently associate dean of academic affairs for the College of Liberal Arts and an associate professor of Spanish at the University of Texas at Arlington. She is the former director of the Women’s & Gender Studies Program at the University of Texas at Arlington.
Dr. Watson earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. She holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic literature from the University of Tennessee.
