Gustavus Adolphus College Executive to Head Wallin Education Partners

Gwendoyln Freed, vice president for marketing and communication at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, will be leaving to take the position of executive director of Wallin Education Partners. Freed has been at the college since 2006. She is currently completing doctoral work at the University of Minnesota.

In 1992, Winston and Maxine Wallin started a scholarship program at South High School in Minneapolis for highly capable students from low- and moderate-income families. Recognizing a broader need, in 2000 the Wallins extended their scholarship program to graduates of all Minneapolis public high schools. To date thousands of Minneapolis high school students have received over $32 million in scholarships to attend colleges and universities in the upper Midwest and historically black colleges and universities in the South.

Winston Wallin was the second in command at Pillsbury. In 1985, he left Pillsbury to start Medtronic Inc., which has grown into the world’s largest medical technology firm. Wallin died this past December at the age of 84.
