On June 1, Dr. Freed is slated to become the twentieth president of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in Minnesota. An adjunct professor and former administrator at the University of Minnesota, she has an extensive background in higher education, the arts, and nonprofit leadership.
The women appointed to endowed chairs are Mary Andrianopoulos at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Lydia Lindsey at North Carolina Central University, Jill Locke at Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota, and Sherrilyn Ifill at the Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C.

Rebecca Bergman has served on the board of trustees of the college since 2007. For the past quarter century, she has been an executive for Medtronic Inc., a medical technology company headquartered in Minneapolis. In 2010, she was elected into the National Academy of Engineering.
Gwendoyln Freed, vice president for marketing and communication at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, will be leaving to take the position of executive director of Wallin Education Partners. Freed has been at the college since 2006.
