Boston University Professor Emelia Benjamin Earns Two Awards From the American Heart Association

Emelia Benjamin, professor of medicine and epidemiology at Boston University, was awarded the 2019 Laennec Clinician/Educator Award and the 2019 Distinguished Achievement Award from the American Heart Association. The Laennec Clinician/Educator Award promotes research for bedside care in the field of cardiology and the Distinguished Achievement Award goes to an individual who has continually contributed to the Council on Genomic and Precision Medicine.

Dr. Benjamin also serves as assistant provost for faculty development for the Boston University Medical Campus, and as vice chair for faculty development and diversity for the department of medicine. She is the author of over 650 peer-reviewed publications that focus on the genetics, epidemiology, and prognosis of a variety of cardiovascular conditions and markers including atrial fibrillation, vascular function, and systemic inflammation.

Dr. Benjamin is a graduate of Harvard University and earned her medical degree at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
