Wesleyan University in Connecticut Promotes Three Women Faculty Members

Wesleyan University, the highly rated liberal arts college in Middletown Connecticut, has announced the promotion of seven faculty members. Three of these promotions were awarded to women scholars.

Hilary Barth was promoted to full professor of psychology. Dr. Barth is a cognitive scientist whose research focuses on the development of human cognition. Her main research program investigates how we learn and think about quantities, including numbers, space, time, and probability. Professor Barth is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. She holds a Ph.D. in cognitive neuroscience from the Massachusetts Insitute of Technology.

Meredith Hughes was promoted to associate professor of astronomy and granted tenure. She joined the faculty at Wesyelan University in 2013. Dr. Hughes studies planet formation by observing the disks of gas and dust that surround young stars. A summa cum laude graduate of Yale University, Dr. Hughes earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in astronomy at Harvard University.

Stéphanie Ponsavady was promoted to associate professor of French and granted tenure. Dr. Ponsavady’s research focuses on the development of colonial transportation systems in the French colonial empire, with particular attention given to roads and the automobile. She is the author of Cultural and Literary Representation of the Automobile in French Indochina: A Colonial Roadshow (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018). Dr. Ponsavady holds a master’s degree from the University of Provence in France and two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. from New York University.
