Mary Beth Walker Named Provost at California State University, Northridge

Mary Beth Walker has been named provost and vice president for academic affairs at California State University Northridge. Her appointment is effective July 1, 2019.

Dr. Walker currently serves as interim president of Georgia Gwinnett College and as associate provost for strategic initiatives and innovation at Georgia State University. She began her career as a professor of economics at Emory University in Atlanta in 1986 before joining the Georgia State faculty in 1991. In 2008, she became associate dean of the university’s Andrew Young School of Policy Studies on an interim basis. In 2009, Dr. Walker was promoted to dean of the school and named chair of the department of economics. In 2017, she was promoted to her current position as associate provost. In January 2019, she was named interim president of Georgia Gwinnett College while a search was conducted to fill the post permanently.

“I am excited to join CSUN with its diverse student population and its interesting and engaged faculty,” said Dr. Walker. “President Harrison has a compelling vision for the future of the university, and I’m proud to be part of that.”

Dr. Walker is a graduate of Rhodes College in Memphis where she double majored in economics and mathematics. She holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. both in economics from Rice University in Houston.
