Three Women Scholars Appointed to Endowed Professorships at Yale University

Katarzyna Chawarska has been named the Emily Fraser Beede Professor of Child Psychiatry. In addition to teaching, she also serves as the director of the National Institutes of Health Autism Center of Excellence at the Yale Child Center, as director of the Social and Affective Neuroscience of Autism Program in the Child Study Center, and as director of the Yale Toddler Development Disabilities Clinic.

Dr. Chawarska is a graduate of Jagiellonian University in Poland. She holds two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in development psychology from Yale University.

Veneeta Dayal has been named the Dorothy R. Diebold Professor of Linguistics. She is the author of Locality in Wh Quantification: Questions and Relative Clauses in Hindi (Springer, 1996).

Dr. Dayal holds a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees from Delhi University in India and a Ph.D. in linguistics from Cornell University.

Jane Tylus has been named the Andrew Downey Orrick Professor of Italian. She has been a faculty member at Yale since July 2018 and holds a secondary appointment in the department of comparative literature. She is the author, editor, or translator of 10 books including Writing and Vulnerability in the Late Renaissance (Stanford University Press, 1993) Siena: City of Secrets (University of Chicago Press, 2015), and Early Modern Cultures of Translations (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2015).

Dr. Tylus is a graduate of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Massachusetts. She holds a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
