Annie Neidel, a manager for the Honors Program at Saint Louis University in Missouri, passed away on November 15, 2018. She was 41 years old and had suffered from cancer.
Dr. Neidel first joined the staff at Saint Louis University in 2003 and spent a number of years in University Writing Services. She also served as an adjunct professor. In 2014, she became the coordinator for competitive fellowships and scholarships for the Honors Program. Dr. Neidel also served as an advisor to all university students who planned to apply for competitive awards such as the Fulbright grant, Marshall Scholarship, Rhodes Scholarship, Truman Scholarship, and others. Additionally, she served as the mentor to the Presidential Scholars Society and taught the Presidential Scholars section of the Honors Crossroads class.
In addition to her administrative roles, Dr. Neidel was an active member of the university’s Women’s Commission. She became a member in 2015 and served as president during the 2017-2018 academic year.
“Annie was well known for her teaching and her wonderful work with students interested in competitive fellowships and scholarships,” said Dr. Robert Pampel, head of the honors program. “She was a generous mentor to all SLU students, a dedicated teacher, and a friend.”
Dr. Neidel was a magna cum laude graduate of Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri. She held a master’s degree and Ph.D. in English from Saint Louis University.
