Ten Women Who Are Taking on New Administrative Duties in Higher Education

Latana Thaviseth has been named assistant director of the Asian American Activities Center at Stanford University. She was a data analyst for equity, diversity, and inclusion at Highline College in Des Moines, Washington.

Thaviseth is currently pursuing a doctorate in higher education and organizational change with a focus on Southeast Asian students at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Paula Mathis has been named director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Southern Mississippi. She was assistant to the dean of the university’s Honors College and coordinator of its Honors Keystone program.

Mathis holds a bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies and a master’s degree in counseling and personnel services with an emphasis in college student personnel, both from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Diane Fabiano Sanders has been named executive director of alumni relations at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina. She was previously the director of philanthropy for the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at the university.

Sanders holds a bachelor’s degree in musical theatre from Coastal Carolina University.

Emily Prieto-Tseregounis has been named executive director of the new Undocumented Student Center at the University of California, Davis. She had been serving as interim director since September.

Dr. Preito-Tseregounis holds a bachelor’s degree in community rhetoric, a master’s degree in education, and a doctorate in education all from the University of California, Davis.

Barbara L. Potts has been named associate vice chancellor for finance and controller at Washington University in St. Louis. She was senior director of finance at Ascension, the country’s largest nonprofit health system.

Potts is a summa cum laude graduate of Saint Louis University where she majored in accounting.

Tina Smith has been named associate vice chancellor for strategic initiatives for development and alumni relations at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. She most recently served as interim vice chancellor for equity, diversity, and inclusion as well as interim chief diversity officer. She has been a Vanderbilt employee since 2002.

Dr. Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in management and a master’s degree in community counseling from the University of North Alabama and a doctorate in higher education administration and supervision from Tennessee State University.

B. Afeni McNeely Cobham has been named chief equity and inclusion officer at Grand Rapids Community College in Michigan. She was an associate dean of institutional equity and inclusion at Connecticut College.

Dr. Cobham holds a bachelor’s degree from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, a master’s degree in student personnel in higher education from the University of Georgia, and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Indiana University. Additionally, she was the first ever recipient of a master’s degree in African American and African Diaspora studies from Indiana University.

Andrea L. Angel has been named vice president for university advancement and CEO of the Foundation at Indiana State University. She was associate vice chancellor for alumni and development at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Angel holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and is scheduled to complete an MBA in December.

Beth A. LaManna has been named campus security director at Queens College in New York, making her the first woman ever to serve in this role at a senior college of the City University of New York. She was a special agent with the FBI for 22 years.

Dr. LaManna holds a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She earned a master’s degree in school and community psychology and a doctorate in educational and clinical psychology from Wayne State University in Detroit.

Rochelle Robinson has been named the violence prevention educator at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York. She was a victim’s advocate at Liberty Resources.

Robinson holds a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from Niagara University and a master of social work degree from Syracuse University.
