Four New Women Department Chairs at the University of Delaware

Kami Silk has been named a professor and chair of the department of communication. She was a professor of communication and senior associate dean of research at Michigan State University.

Dr. Silk holds a bachelor’s degree in English and mass communication and a master’s degree in communication studies from Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in communication from the University of Georgia.

Lu Ann De Cunzo has been appointed as chair of the anthropology department. She is returning to this position after a year-long sabbatical.

Dr. Cunzo holds a Ph.D. in American civilization from the University of Pennsylvania.

Annette Giesecke has been appointed as chair of the languages, literatures, and cultures department. She is returning to this position after a year-long sabbatical.

Dr. Giesecke holds a bachelor’s degrees in classics from the University of California, Los Angeles and a master’s degree and Ph.D. both in classics from Harvard University.

Vella Fowler has been named chair of the department of biological sciences, effective January 2019. She is currently a professor and associate dean of graduate studies in the department of molecular medicine at the Scripps Research Institute.

Dr. Fowler holds a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College in Ohio and a Ph.D. from Harvard University.

Caroline Attardo Genco Named the First Woman President of the University at Buffalo

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
