Nancy Carrasco has been appointed chair of Vanderbilt University’s department of molecular physiology and biophysics, effective in the spring 2019 semester. She is currently a professor of cellular and molecular physiology at Yale University.
Dr. Carrasco holds a master’s degree in biochemistry and a medical doctorate from the University of New Mexico.
Michelle L. Rockward has been appointed assistant to the chair and lecturer in the department of mathematics at Morgan State University in Baltimore. She was an assistant chair and assistant professor in the mathematics, computer science, and engineering department at Georgia State University’s Perimeter College.
Rockward earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from South Carolina State University and her master’s degree in applied mathematics from Clark Atlanta University.
Amy Joy Lanou has been named executive director of the North Carolina Center for Health & Wellness at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. She will hold that position in addition to serving as a professor in the university’s department of health and wellness.
Dr. Lanou holds a bachelor’s degree in nutrition science from the University of California, Davis and a Ph.D. in human nutrition from Cornell University where she researched body weight regulation and food intake control.
Sally C. Morton has been named to the Agency for Healthcare and Research and Quality National Advisory Council. She currently serves as dean of the Virginia Tech College of Science.
Dr. Morton earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematical sciences, a master’s degree in operations research, and a doctoral degree in statistics, all from the Stanford University. Additionally she holds a master’s degree in statistics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Teenie Matlock has been named interim vice provost for the faculty at the University of California, Merced. Previously, she held a research position at Stanford University before she joined the University of California, Merced faculty as a cognitive science professor and the McClathy Chair in Communications.
Dr. Matlock holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and a master’s degree in linguistics from California State University, Fresno. She earned her Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Lisa Lowe has been appointed as the Samuel Knight Professor of American Studies at Yale University starting in January 2019. She was a distinguished professor of English and humanities and director of the Center for Humanities at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts.
Dr. Lowe received her bachelor’s degree in European intellectual history from Stanford University and her Ph.D. in literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Bozenna Pasik-Duncan has been selected for a second term as the Institute of Engineering and Electronics Engineers 2018 Global Chair of the Women in Engineering Committee. She is a professor of mathematics, courtesy professor of electrical engineering & computer science and aerospace engineering, and investigator at the Information & Telecommunication Technology Center at the University of Kansas.
Dr. Pasik-Duncan holds a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Warsaw and Ph.D. and a doctorate of science in mathematics from the Warsaw School of Economics.
Ayanna Thompson has been named director of the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies and professor in the department of English at Arizona State University. She is returning to the university after leaving a faculty position in the English department for a position at George Washington University five years ago.
Dr. Thompson holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
Jessica Colangelo has been named assistant professor of architecture at the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design at the University of Arkansas. She was an assistant professor at Texas Tech University and has worked as a professional architect in firms in Los Angeles, Boston, and Houston.
Colangelo holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Rice University in Houston, Texas, and a master of archietecture degree from Princeton University in New Jersey.
Jennifer Barkin has been appointed Mercer University School of Medicine’s academic liaison to the Georgia Department of Public Health. She is an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the medical school.
Dr. Barkin holds a bachelor’s degree in statistics from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She earned a master’s degree in biostatistics and a Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public Health.
Judith Stoddart has been named the associate provost for university collections and arts initiatives at Michigan State University. She will continue in her position as senior associate dean of the Graduate School and as associate professor in the department of English.
Dr. Stoddart received a bachelor’s degree with highest distinction in French language and literature and English literature from Michigan State University. She also holds a master’s degree in English studies and a Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Oxford in England.
Felicity Paxton has been appointed associate dean for undergraduate studies at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. She previously served as director of the Penn Women’s Center.
Dr. Paxton holds a Ph.D. in American civilization and a graduate certificate in women’s studies from the University of Pennsylvania.
Kya Mangrum has been named to a tenure-track faculty post in the English department at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California. She was previously a faculty member at the University of Utah.
Dr. Mangrum received her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of California, Berkeley and her master’s degree and Ph.D. in English language and literature from the University of Michigan.
