Jill Vanderstoep, an assistant professor of mathematics at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, received the 2018 Daniel Solow Author’s Award from the Mathematical Association of America at the group’s recent annual meeting in Denver. She was honored, along with co-author Todd Swanson, an associate professor at Hope College, and five other co-authors.
The award recognizes the college-level statistics textbook Introduction to Statistical Investigations (Wiley, 2014). The book also received the Most Promising New Textbook Award from the Textbook and Academic Authors Association. A new edition of the textbook has been prepared for an Advanced Placement course for high school students.
Vanderstoep is a graduate of Hope College, where she majored in mathematics. She holds a master’s degree in applied mathematics from the University of Illinois and a second master’s degree in biostatistics from the University of Michigan.
