Carolyn Long was appointed interim chancellor of the West Virginia Higher Educational Policy Commission. For the past seven years, she has served as president of the West Virginia University Institute of Technology in Beckley. The commission develops and oversees a public policy agenda for West Virginia’s four-year colleges and universities. Comprised of a 10-member board, the commission works with institutions on accomplishing their missions and carrying out state procedures.
During her tenure, at the West Virginia Institute of Technology, Long steered presided over the transition from the Montgomery location to a new campus with state-of-the-art facilities in Beckley. WVU Tech has also seen increased enrollment and an expansion of programs and services under her leadership.
Long is the former chair of the West Virginia University Board of Governors. Earlier, she served as superintendent of the Braxton County, West Virginia, school system.
Long is a graduate of Fairmont State University and holds a master’s degree in education administration from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies.
