Valeria Raquel Mas was named to the Transplant Institute Endowed Professorship in Translational Research at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. She will also serve as director of Transplant Research for the University of Tennessee/Methodist Transplant Institute. Dr. Mas was a tenured associate professor of research surgery at the University of Virginia, where she directed the Translational Genomics Transplant Laboratory.
Professor Mas a bachelor’s degree in biology and master’s degrees in immunology and clinical biochemistry from the National University of Cordoba in Argentina. She earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry at the National University of San Luis in Argentina.
Susan Stokes has been named the Tiffany and Margaret Blake Distinguished Service Professor in Political Science at the University of Chicago. She was the John S. Saden Professor of Political Science at Yale University, but previously served on the faculty at the University of Chicago from 1991 to 2005. She is the author or co-author of five books including Mandates and Democracy: Neoliberalism by Surprise in Latin America (Cambridge University Press, 2001).
Professor Stokes is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University, where she majored in anthropology. She holds a master’s degree in anthropology and a Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University.
Carmen Winant has been selected as the inaugural holder of the Roy Lichtenstein Chair of Studio Art at Ohio State University. She will join the faculty at the university in August. She has been serving as an assistant professor of history of art and visual culture at the Columbus College of Art & Design. An exhibit of her work is currently on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
Professor Winant is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles She holds a master for fine arts degree and a master’s degree in critical studies from the California College of the Arts.
