Description
The Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics at the University of Chicago invites applications for appointment as Instructional Professor at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full. This is a full-time, career-track teaching position to begin on or after July 1, 2027. The initial appointment term is from three to five years depending on rank and is renewable with opportunity for promotion within the Instructional Professor track based on performance review.
The successful candidate will teach up to six courses in the undergraduate and master’s curriculum annually. We are interested in candidates with expertise in either macroeconomics and its applied fields, OR statistics, data science, casual inference, and econometrics. In addition to teaching, the IP will advise and mentor undergraduate and masters students, organize student activities, contribute to recruitment and admissions of MA students and oversee and plan the curriculum under the direction of the Director of Undergraduate Studies and the Director of MA programs.
The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees Union (SEIU) and the University.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Economics. Teaching experience with courses in applied economics, particularly pertaining to macroeconomics, OR statistics, data science, casual inference, and econometrics, with an emphasis on practical applications of the tools taught in these courses is required.
Consideration for the hiring level will be granted conditional on professional qualifications. The successful candidate will have outstanding in-person, written, and virtual communication skills and the ability to teach audiences with diverse backgrounds and with varying levels of knowledge about economics. Candidates should be comfortable teaching from introductory courses through courses at the master’s level.
