Eleven Women Who Have Been Appointed to New Administrative Posts in Higher Education

Kim Pohlman Tavares was promoted to associate vice president for alumni relations and university advancement at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She has been serving as senior director of advancement communications, marketing, and events. She joined the advancement staff at the university in 2009.

Tavares is a graduate of George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Lisa Lang is the new general counsel at Kentucky State University in Frankfort. She has been serving as assistant general counsel for the Kentucky Department of Education and is a former assistant attorney general of Kentucky.

Lang is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, where she majored in English. She earned her law degree at the University of Louisville.

Joanna Bean was promoted to director of the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Fund at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. She has been serving as assistant director of university communications and media relations. Before joining the staff at the university in 2016, she was a reporter and editor at the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Bean is a graduate of Colorado State University in Fort Collins. She is currently pursuing a master of public administration degree at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

Laura Bryant was named director of the Center for Health Education and Wellness at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She joined the staff at the center in 2012 and was named associate director in 2015.

Bryant is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, where she majored in food and nutrition. She holds a master of social work degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Zamira Korff was appointed senior vice president of institutional advancement at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. She was senior vice president of strategic philanthropy for the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Boston.

Korff earned a bachelor’s degree from the School of International Service at American University in Washington, D.C.

Patrice Bell Mercadel is the inaugural chief marketing and communications officer at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans. She was public information officer for Transdev, a private company that manages the public transit agency in New Orleans.

Mercadel is a graduate of the University of New Orleans, where she majored in journalism and mass communications.

Nora Myers was appointed director of LaunchLab, a resource center for entrepreneurial students at the West Virginia University Institute of Technology in Beckley. She is the former executive director of the Entrepreneurship Center at the University of Charleston.

Myers is a graduate of Virginia Tech and holds an MBA from Indiana University in Bloomington.

Kristin Davitt is the inaugural vice chancellor for development and alumni relations at the University of Pittsburgh. She will also serve as the president of the Medical and Health Sciences Foundation for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Davitt is a former fundraising officer for Brown University and the University of Pennsylvania. She is a graduate of Brown University.

Lenore Schaffer was hired as the deputy coordinator in the Title IX Office at the University of Southern Mississippi. She has been serving as a graduate assistant in the Title IX Office.

Dr. Schaffer holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania. She earned a master’s degree in counseling and human services from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Lenore recently received a doctorate in higher education administration the University of Southern Mississippi.

Katharina Ullmann was appointed director of the Student Farm, an operation of the Agricultural Sustainability Institute at the University of California, Davis. She was a crop pollination specialist for the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation.

Dr. Ullman holds a Ph.D. in entomology from the University of California, Davis.

Suzanna Schroeder-Green was promoted to director of the Ralph M. Besse Library at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio. She was director of electronic and media services at the library.

Schroeder-Green is a graduate of Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio. She earned a master of library and information science degree at Kent State University in Ohio.
