Baylor University in Waco, Texas, Chooses Its First Woman President

The board of regents of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, has chosen Linda A. Livingstone at the institution’s fifteenth president. When she takes office on June 1, Dr. Livingstone will be the first woman to lead the university in its 172-year history.

Baylor University is a large research institution with more than 14,000 undergraduates and 2,500 graduate students. Women are 58 percent of the undergraduate student body. The university has recently received a great deal of negative publicity relating to sexual assault allegations rendered against members of its football team.

Dr. Livingstone is a professor of management and dean of the School of Business at George Washington University in the nation’s capital. She is the former dean of the of School of Business at Pepperdine University in California. Earlier in her career, she spent 11 years on the faculty at Baylor University and served as associate dean for graduate programs at the university’s School of Business.

A native of Perkins, Oklahoma, Professor Livingstone earned a bachelor’s degree in economics, an MBA, and a Ph.D. in management and organizational behavior at Oklahoma State University, where she was also a four-year letter winner on the women’s basketball team.
