Ten Women Faculty Members Assigned to New Roles

tindallNatalie Tindall was appointed chair of the department of communication at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. She was an associate professor of communication and co-director of the graduate program in communication at Georgia State University in Atlanta.

Dr. Tindall is a graduate of Florida A& M University in Tallahassee. She holds a master’s degree in mass communication from the University of South Florida and a Ph.D. in communication from the University of Maryland.

VandefordPamela VandeVord was named to the N. Waldo Harrison Professorship at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg. A member of the Virginia Tech faculty since 2011, Dr. VandeVord has been serving as interim chair of the department of biomedical engineering and mechanics.

Professor VandeVord is a graduate of the University of Michigan. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Wayne State University in Detroit.

mcclungPatricia McClung was promoted to full professor of special education at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. She joined the faculty at the university in 2002.

Professor McClung is a graduate of the University of London. She holds a master’s degree from Lee University and an educational doctorate from the University of East Anglia in England.

stanlie_jamesStanlie James, a professor in the School of Social Transformation at Arizona State University will be taking on new duties as vice provost for inclusion and diversity engagement. Professor James, who has been at Arizona State for 10 years, has a joint appointment in the Women and Gender Studies program.

Dr. James is a graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Denver.

DrEllenDSmileyEllen D. Smiley, dean of the Earl Lester Cole Honors College at Grambling State University in Louisiana, was named interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at the university. She will remain dean of the Honors College while a search for a permanent provost is conducted.

Dr. Smiley joined the faculty at Grambling State University in 1992. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Grambling State University and earned a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.

lambrightAnne Lambright was promoted and named the Charles A. Dana Research Professor of Language and Culture Studies at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Professor Lambright joined the Trinity College faculty in 2000.

Professor Lambright is a graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas.

kernLee Kern, professor in the College of Education at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, was given the added duties as director of the Center for Promoting Research to Practice. Dr. Kern joined the faculty at Lehigh University in 1998.

Professor Kern is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she majored in sociology. She holds a master’s degree in special education from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, and a Ph.D. in special education from the University of South Florida in Tampa.

dr-liangChyi-Iyi Liang is the new holder of the W.K. Kellogg Endowed Chair in Sustainable Community-Based Food Systems at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. She was a professor in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Vermont.

The endowed chair was established by a $1.5 million contribution to the university from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, established in 1930 by the breakfast cereal pioneer.

norrisKaren Norris was named a Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar in Immunology and Translational Biomedical Research at the University of Georgia. She has been serving as a professor of immunology at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Norris is a graduate of Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She earned a Ph.D. at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

SlatteryMargaret Slattery, an assistant professor of biomedical engineering at Pennsylvania State University, was given the added duties as interim director and assistant dean of the Office for General Education.

Dr. Slattery earned a Ph.D. in bioengineering at Pennsylvania State University.

Caroline Attardo Genco Named the First Woman President of the University at Buffalo

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
