New Women Deans at Six Colleges and Universities

marinelliRoberta Marinelli has been appointed dean of the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University in Corvallis, effective September 30. She has been serving as executive director of the Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies at the University of Southern California. She also serves as president of the board of directors of the Southern California Marine Institute.

Dr. Marinelli is a graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where she majored in environmental studies. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in marine science from the University of South Carolina.

Diane-Yendol-HoppeyDiane Yendol-Hoppey is the new dean of the College of Education and Human Services at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. She was a professor and associate dean in the College of Education at the University of South Florida in Tampa.

Dr. Yendol-Hoppey is the author of four books on professional development. She holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction, all from Pennsylvania State University.

debra-moddelmogDebra A. Moddelmog was appointed dean of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Nevada Reno, effective August 15. She was a professor and chair of the department of English at Ohio State University. Professor Moddelmog served on the faculty at Ohio State for 29 years.

Professor Moddelmog is a graduate of Georgia Southern College, where she majored in journalism. She holds a master’s degree in English from Auburn University in Alabama, and a Ph.D. in English from Pennsylvania State University.

KrejciJanetJanet Wessel Krejci was named dean of the College of Nursing at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, effective January 1. She has been serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Illinois State University. Dr. Krejci was associate dean for undergraduate programs at the College of Nursing from 2004 to 2007.

Dr. Krejci holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in nursing, all from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

robertsonAnne Walters Robertson was appointed interim dean of the Division of the Humanities at the University of Chicago. She is the Claire Dux Swift Distinguished Service Professor of Music and the Humanities and chair of the department of music.

Professor Robertson has been on the faculty at the University of Chicago since 1984. She has served as president of the American Musicology Society. Dr. Robertson earned a Ph.D. at Yale University.

cherylharrisonCheryl Harrison was appointed dean of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies at Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York. She has been serving as executive director of the school.

Dr. Harrison is a graduate of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. She holds a master’s degree from Boston University and a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
