Retiring Hamilton College President Has a Scholarship Fund Named in Her Honor

140925_hml_stewartHamilton College has established the Joan Hinde Stewart Scholarship Fund in honor of the college’s president who is retiring on June 30 after 13 years of leading the high-ranking liberal arts college in Clinton, New York. The college had raised $5.4 million for the scholarship fund that will provide need-based financial aid and support for career exploration activities for Hamilton students from low-income families.

Steve Sadove, chair of the board of trustees at Hamilton College, stated that “Joan Stewart has worked hard to make certain that students from limited means would always have the financial resources to attend Hamilton. Her legacy is ensured with the establishment of this fund. It is a perfect way to honor her service.”

Dr. Stewart was appointed president of Hamilton College in 2003. Previously, she was a professor of French and dean of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Stewart is a graduate of St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, New York and holds a Ph.D. from Yale University.
