In Memoriam: Debra Schwartz, 1956-2016

swartzDebra Schwartz, an instructor of English at Arizona State University in Tempe, has found dead below the rim of Oak Creek Canyon. Her body was found at the bottom of a slot canyon, about one half mile from her campsite. Dr. Schwartz was 59 years old.

Dr. Schwartz taught courses in composition and business writing at Arizona State since 2011. Earlier she was a book editor for Greenwood Press. She was an avid camper and hiker.

Dr. Schwartz was a graduate of Roosevelt University in Chicago, where she majored in broadcasting. She held a master’s degree in creative nonfiction from National Louis University in Chicago and a Ph.D. in journalism and public communication from the University of Maryland College Park.
