Four Women Scholars Presented With Notable Awards

OrentlicherpictureMeira L. Orentlicher, an associate professor and coordinator of research and development for the occupational therapy department at Touro College School of Health Sciences in Bayshore, New York, received the Roster of Fellows Award from the American Occupational Therapy Association. The award honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the continuing education and professional development of occupational therapy practitioners.

Dr. Orentlicher is a graduate of the University of Jerusalem. She holds master’s and doctoral degrees from New York University. Dr. Orentlicher is the author of Transitions Across the Lifespan: An Occupational Therapy Approach (AOTA Press, Oct. 2015).

Teresa-CordovaTeresa Cordova, professor of urban planning and policy and director of the Great Cities Institute at the University of Illinois at Chicago, received the Sor Juana Award from the National Museum of Mexican Art. The award recognizes women for outstanding civic, social, and artistic contributions.

Dr. Cordova holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. She earned a Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Denver.

Shelia-deBretteville_0Sheila Levrant de Bretteville, the Caroline M. Street Professor of Art and the director of graduate studies in graphic design at the Yale School of Art, has been selected to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Women’s Caucus for Art. When she joined the faculty of the Yale School of Art in 1990, she was the school’s first woman tenured professor.

A graduate of Barnard College in New York City, de Bretteville holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in fine arts from Yale University.

Condee, NancyNancy Condee, a professor and director of graduate studies in the department of Slavic languages and literatures at the University of Pittsburgh, received the 2015 Award for Distinguished Service from the American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages.

Professor Condee has taught at the University of Pittsburgh for more than two decades. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Slavic languages and literatures from Yale University.
