The Next President of Sonoma State University in California

New Sonoma State University President SakakiJudy K. Sakaki was named president of Sonoma State University, a campus of the California State University System. Sonoma State, in Rohnert Park, north of San Francisco, enrolls about 8,500 undergraduate students and 700 graduate students. Women make up 62.1 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Sakaki has been serving as vice president of student affairs in the Office of the President of the University of California System. When she takes office at Sonoma State on July 1, she will be the seventh president and the second woman president in Sonoma State’s 55-year history.

Before joining the staff in the Office of the President of the University of California nine years ago, Dr. Sakaki served as vice chancellor of student affairs at the University of California, Davis and vice president and dean of student affairs at Fresno State University

Dr. Sakaki holds a bachelor’s degree in human development and master’s degree in educational psychology from what is now California State University, East Bay. She holds a Ph.D. in education from the University of California, Berkeley.
