Five Universities Appoint Women to Dean Posts

Dr.Razzaghi_for_webFarzaneh Razzaghi was named the next dean of library services at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Since 2007, she has been serving as dean of the library at the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg. She joined the library staff at the university in 1990.

Dr. Razzaghi is a graduate of Tabriz University in Iran. She earned a master of library and information science degree and a doctorate in library science from Texas Woman’s University.

cuddAnn Cudd was named dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Boston University in Massachusetts. She has been serving as vice provost and dean of undergraduate studies at the University of Kansas. Dr. Cudd came to the University of Kansas in 1988 and was named a Distinguished Professor of Philosophy in 2012. She directed the university’s Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies program from 2001 to 2008. She is the author of Capitalism, For and Against: A Feminist Debate (Cambridge University Press, 2011).

Professor Cudd is a graduate of Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree in economics and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr-J-Paige-Carney.jpgJ. Paige Carney was appointed dean of the College of Professional Studies at West Virginia State University in Institute, West Virginia. She has served as acting dean since January 2014. Dr. Carney joined the faculty at the university in 2011 as a professor of education. Earlier, she served on the faculties at the University of Charleston and Eastern Kentucky University.

Dr. Carney is a graduate of the University of South Carolina. She holds a master’s degree from Georgetown College in Kentucky and a doctorate from the University of Kentucky.

likesWendy M. Likes was named dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. Dr. Likes will also hold the Ruth Neil Murry Endowed Chair in Nursing. She joined the faculty of the nursing school in 2004 and has served as interim dean for the past 10 months.

Dr. Likes earned a master’s degree, a doctor of nursing science degree, and a Ph.D., all from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Laurie Mullen was appointed dean of the College of Education at Towson University in Maryland. She has been serving as associate dean of the Teachers College at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. She joined the Ball State faculty in 1997.

Dr. Mullen is a graduate of Southern Illinois University. She holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of Illinois.
