New Faculty Roles for Seven Women Scholars

Guangzhao Mao was named chair of the department of chemical engineering and materials science at Wayne State University in Detroit. She joined the faculty of the department in 1995 as an assistant professor.

Professor Mao is a graduate of Nanjing University in China. She holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota.

Lorraine S. Lange was named director of the master of arts in teaching and master of arts in liberal studies at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. She recently retired as superintendent of the Roanoke County Public School System. She has served in that role since 2006 and began teaching in the district in 1969.

Dr. Lange is a graduate of Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia, and holds a master’s degree from Hollins University. She was recently appointed by Governor Terry McAuliffe to the Virginia Board of Education.

Lauren Emberson was named an assistant professor of psychology at Princeton University in New Jersey. She has been serving as a postdoctoral associate in brain and cognitive sciences at the University of Rochester.

Dr. Emberson is a graduate of the University of British Columbia in Canada. She holds a Ph.D. in psychology from Cornell University.

Maureen Conroy was named the inaugural Anita Zucker Professor in Early Childhood Studies at the University of Florida. She has been on the faculty at the university since 2011. Earlier, she taught at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Professor Conroy is a graduate of Keene State College in New Hampshire. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Holly Willis, an assistant professor of nutrition at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota, has been given the additional responsibility of program director in the department of dietetics. Dr. Willis joined the faculty at the university in 2014.

Dr. Willis holds a master’s degree from Tufts University in Massachusetts and a doctorate in nutrition from the University of Minnesota.

Emily Conover was promoted to associate professor of economics and granted tenure at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. She joined the faculty at Hamilton in 2008.

Dr. Conover is a graduate of Wellesley College in Massachusetts. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Paris and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley.

Carlin Rafie was named an assistant professor in the department of human nutrition, foods, and exercise at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Dr. Rafie will also serve as an adult nutrition specialist for the Virginia Cooperative Extension service.

Dr. Rafie holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Oklahoma State University. She earned a Ph.D. in dietetics and nutrion from Florida International University in Miami.
