Sally McMillan, vice provost for academic affairs at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville for the past five years, has announced that she will step down at the end of the academic year. She will conduct research during the fall semester and then return to her teaching position as professor in the School of Advertising and Public Relations at the university.
Dr. McMillan joined the faculty at the University of Tennessee in 1999. Previously, she taught at Boston University, the University of Oregon and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Professor McMillan has a bachelor’s degree in English from Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee. She earned master’s degree in journalism and public relations at the University of Maryland and a Ph.D. in communication and society at the University of Oregon.
Lynn Gangone, dean of the Colorado Women’s College at the University of Denver is leaving her post on April 1. She will become vice president for leadership programs at the American College of Education in Washington, D.C. Dr. Gangone has been dean of Colorado Women’s College since 2007.
Dr. Gangone is a graduate of the College of New Rochelle in New York. She holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology from the University at Albany of the State University of New York System and a second master’s degree and an educational doctorate from Columbia University in New York City.
Carol Simpson, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, is stepping down, effective June 30. Dr. Simpson, who has served as provost since 2008, will return to her faculty position as a professor of geosciences. She is an expert in structural geology and tectonics.
Professor Simpson is a graduate of the University of Wales. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa and a Ph.D. in structural geology from ETH Zürich in Switzerland.
JoAnne Podis, vice president for academic affairs at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio, is retiring this month. She has been on the staff at the college for the past 18 years.
Dr. Podis holds a Ph.D. in British literature from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
