Amy Gutmann, president of the University of Pennsylvania, has been selected to receive the Reginald Wilson Diversity Leadership Award from the American Council on Education (ACE).
“It is a privilege to present the 2015 Reginald Wilson Diversity Leadership Award to Amy Gutmann, whose vision and leadership at the University of Pennsylvania and elsewhere has shown her dedication to increasing access to higher education to all students,” said ACE President Molly Corbett Broad. “She has worked tirelessly to assist students in pursuing their dream of a college degree.”
In addition to advocating for increased student diversity, in 2011, President Gutmann launched the university’s $100 million Action Plan for Faculty Diversity and Excellence.
President Gutmann also serves as the Christopher H. Browne Distinguished Professor of Political Science and professor of communication at the university’s Annenberg School for Communication. She is the author or co-author of 16 books including her latest work, The Spirit of Compromise: Why Governing Demands It and Campaigning Undermines It (Princeton University Press, 2012).
Before becoming the University of Pennsylvania’s eighth president in 2004, Dr. Gutmann was provost and professor of politics at Princeton University. She is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University and holds a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Ph.D. in political science from Harvard.
