Shirley Metcalf Named President of Central Oregon Community College

Shirley I. Metcalf has been serving as interim president of Central Oregon Community College in Bend since last September. Now the college’s board of directors has decided to give her the job on a full-time basis.
Central Oregon Community College enrolls about 6,800 students. Women make up 56 percent of the student body.
Dr. Metcalf joined the staff at the college in 2011. Before becoming interim president, she served as dean of extended learning. Earlier in her career, Dr. Metcalf was executive vice president for instruction at Lake Washington Technical College in Kirkland, Washington and dean of instruction at Hawaii Community College in Hilo. She taught business in the University of Hawaii system for more than 25 years.
Dr. Metcalf holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Hawaii. She earned an educational doctorate at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
