The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville has announced the selection of five finalists for the position of chair of the department of architecture in the Fay Jones School of Architecture. The five candidates will all be visiting the Fayetteville campus over the next month for a series of interviews and public forums. Two of the five finalists are women.
W. Elysse Newman is an associate professor and director of advanced studies in the College of Architecture and the Arts at Florida International University in Miami. She has been on the faculty at Florida International since 2011 and previously taught at Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Tennessee. Dr. Newman is a graduate of the University of Texas. She holds a master of architecture degree, a master’s degree in the history of technology and science, and a Ph.D. in architecture, urban design, planning, and landscape architecture, all from Harvard University.
Nichole Wiedemann is an associate professor and director of the Professional Residency Program in the School of Architecture at the University of Texas. She joined the faculty at the University of Texas in 1997 after teaching at MIT and the University of Florida. Professor Wiedemann is a graduate of the University of Florida and holds a master of architecture degree from Princeton University in New Jersey.
