Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

money_bagHere is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

Bay Path College in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, received a $3.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to improve the technology infrastructure for its American Women’s College, the first online educational initiative exclusively for women. The online women’s college had about 200 students enrolled for the fall semester. Bay Path College hopes to expand the program to 5,000 students within four years.

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis received a $158,232 grant from the National Cancer Institute for research on triple negative breast cancer. This type of breast cancer has the lowest rate of survival and makes up between 15 and 20 percent of all breast cancer cases.

USA Triathlon has announced a $2.6 million grant program to support the development of women’s varsity teams at colleges and universities across the United States. The group, established in 1982, is the national governing body for triathlon and other endurance sports. Triathlon was designated an emerging sport for women by the National Collegiate Athletic Association earlier this year. More on the grant program can be found here.
