Eight Women With New Administrative Roles in Higher Education

Rebecca Tsosie was named associate vice provost for academic excellence and inclusion at Arizona State University. She is a Regents Professor in the university’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.

Professor Tsosie has been on the faculty at Arizona State University since 1993. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a juris doctorate from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Ann Hild was named interim associate vice president for graduate studies at the University of Wyoming. She is a professor of ecosystem science and management.

Professor Hild is a graduate of the University of Iowa, where she majored in anthropology. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in range and wildlife management at Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

Carol T. Christ was appointed director of the Center for Studies in Higher Education at the University of California, Berkeley. She is a professor emerita of English at the university and is the former president of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.

Dr. Christ first joined the Berkeley faculty in 1970 after earning a Ph.D. at Yale University. At Berkeley, she served as chair of the Department of English, dean of the Division of Humanities and provost of the College of Letters and Science.

Fabiola Ehlers-Zavala has been named director of the INTO Center at Colorado State University. She has been serving as the academic director of the center. The INTO CSU Center helps international students acclimate to the university environment.

A native of Chile, Dr. Ehlers-Zavala joined the faculty at Colorado State in 2006. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English from Illinois State University.

Laura Perry Johnson was named director and associate dean of University of Georgia Extension, effective January 1. She has been serving as district extension director for southwest Georgia.

Dr. Perry Johnson holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in animal and dairy science from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia.

Sarah F. Cliffe was appointed director of the Center for International Cooperation at New York University. She was a special adviser and assistant secretary general at the United Nations. She is a former executive of the World Bank.

Cliffe is a graduate of the University of Cambridge in England. She holds a master’s degree in international relations and economic policy from Columbia University.

Jean Gallipeau was promoted to comptroller at Syracuse University in New York. She has served as associate comptroller since 2013.  Previously, she was director of finance for the Central New York Regional Transportation Authority.

Gallipeau is a graduate of Le Moyne College in Syracuse and earned an MBA at the University of Maryland.

Sandra Austin was appointed chief executive officer at the Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. She has served as managing director of Alvarez & Marsal Healthcare Industry Group and as chief management officer for the Public Hospital of Louisiana State University in New Orleans.

Austin earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She holds a master’s degree in public health, with concentrations in health and hospital management, from the University of Michigan and a juris doctorate from Cleveland State University.
