Endowed Chair at George Mason University Named for the Late Donna Sterling

Donna Sterling was a professor of science education at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. She died this past summer at her home in McLean, Virginia, after battling pancreatic cancer.

Now her husband and children have made a $2 million contribution to the university to create the Donna R. and David E. Sterling Endowed Chair in Science Education at the university. The gift is the largest donation ever made to George Mason University by the family of a faculty member. In making the announcement, David Sterling said “Donna blossomed at Mason and we trust her collaborative and innovative methods will continue to be the core of the chair as it expands how Virginia’s children become excited and proficient in science.”

Donna Sterling was a native of Sacramento, California. She held an educational doctorate from George Washington University. Professor Sterling taught at George Mason University for nearly 21 years.
