Honors Bestowed on Five Women Professors

Melissa_JohnstonMelissa Johnson, assistant professor and coordinator for the school library media program in the School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Alabama, received the Cross Cultural Research Award from the Association for Educational Communication and Technology.

Dr. Johnson earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Georgia and a doctorate in library and information sciences from Florida State University.

peresNatalia Peres, an associate professor at the University of Florida’s Gulf Coast Research Center in Balm, received the Lee M. Hutchins Award from the American Phytopathologial Society for her research on more efficient use of fungicides in strawberry production.

Dr. Peres holds a bachelor’s degree in agronomy, a master’s degree in horticulture, and a Ph.D. in plant pathology, all from Sao Paulo State University in Brazil.

moseleychristianMichelle Moseley-Christian is the inaugural winner of the William Levin Award for Research in the History of Art from the Southeastern College Art Conference. Dr. Moseley-Christian is an associate professor of art history at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg.

Dr. Moseley-Christian joined the faculty at Virginia Tech in 2007. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Alabama and a Ph.D. from the University of Kansas.

dunlopDorothy D. Dunlop, professor of medicine/rheumatology at the Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University in Chicago, received the Distinguish Scholar Award from the American College of Rheumatology.

Professor Dunlop joined the Northwestern University faculty in 1989. She holds a master’s degree in health science from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and a Ph.D. in industrial engineering from Northwestern University.

gallagherMichela Gallagher, the Krieger-Eisenhower Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University, received the Mika Salpeter Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Neuroscience.

Professor Gallagher joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins University in 1997 after teaching at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a graduate of Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, and holds a Ph.D. in physiological psychology from the University of Vermont.
