In Memoriam: Jan J. Vandever, 1944-2014

JanVandeverJan Vandever, professor emerita of mathematics at South Dakota State University and former professor at Matanuska-Susitna College in Palmer, Alaska, died on October 1 at a hospice care facility in Anchorage, Alaska. Dr. Vandever was 69 years old and had been suffering from cancer.

Dr. Vandever grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Lakewood High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education at what is now Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey. She held a master’s degree in mathematics education from Rutgers University in New Jersey and a master’s degree in teaching from Colorado State University. Professor Vandever earned a Ph.D. in measurement and statistics from the University of North Dakota.

Dr. Vandever served on the faculty at South Dakota State University from 1981 to her retirement in 2003. She then taught for 10 years at Matanuska-Susitna College, which is a campus of the University of Alaska-Anchorage.
