Four Women Professors Honored With Distinguished Awards

spa_romzekBarbara Romzek, dean of the School of Public Affairs at American University in Washington, D.C., received the 2014 John Gaus Award from the American Political Science Association. She joined the faculty at American University in 2012 after teaching at the University of Kansas for more than 30 years.

Dr. Romzek is a graduate of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. She holds a master’s degree in political science from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo and a Ph.D. in government from the University of Texas at Austin.

Strickland, Bonnie.jpgBonnie Strickland, professor emerita of clinical psychology at the University of Massachusetts, received the Gold Medal Award for Life Achievement in Psychology in the Public Interest from the American Psychological Association. Professor Strickland is a former president of the American Psychological Association. She joined the faculty at the University of Massachusetts in 1973.

Dr. Strickland is a graduate of Alabama College. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Ohio State University.

anghelescuHermina G.B. Anghelescu, associate professor in the School of Library and Information Science at Wayne State University, received the First Rank Distinction from the government of the Republic of Moldova. The landlocked country, which was part of the Soviet Union, sits between Ukraine and Romania. She was honored for her work to aid the public library system in the country under programs of the U.S. State Department and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Dr. Anghelescu holds a master’s degree in foreign languages and literatures from the University of Bucharest in Romania. She earned a master of library and information science and a Ph.D. in the same field at the University of Texas at Austin.

dixonAndrea Dixon, the Frank and Floy Smith Holloway Endowed Professor in Marketing at the School of Business at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, received the 2014 Excellence in Teaching Award from the American Marketing Association. Dr. Dixon joined the Baylor University faculty in 2009 after teaching at the University of Cincinnati for 20 years.

Dr. Dixon earned a Ph.D. at Indiana University.
