This Week’s Roundup of Faculty News Concerning Women in Higher Education

Ehrlich_ElanaElana Ehrlich was named the ninth Jess and Mildred Fisher Endowed Professor in the Biological and Physical Sciences at Towson University in Maryland. She joined the faculty at the university in 2011.

Dr. Ehrlich is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts. She earned a Ph.D. at the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University.

ReedLinda Reed was appointed chair of the department of physician assistant studies at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. Dr. Reed was a professor and dean of the Division of Allied Health at the Baptist College of Health Sciences in Memphis.

Dr. Reed is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center in Oklahoma City. She earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Oklahoma and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of North Texas.

WendyLowerNEWWendy Lower, the John K. Roth Professor of History and George R. Roberts Fellow at Claremont McKenna College in California, is taking on new responsibilities at the college as director of the Center for Human Rights Leadership.

Professor Lower is the author of Hitler’s Furies: German Women in the Nazi Killing Fields (Houghton Mifflin, 2013). which was a finalist for the National Book Award. She is a graduate of Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, and holds a Ph.D. from American University in Washington, D.C.

moriarityMaureen Moriarty was named director of the doctor of nursing practice degree program at Georgetown University. She has been on the faculty at the university since 2010.

Dr. Moriarty is a graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore County. She earned a doctor of nursing practice degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Carrie-BrownCarrie Brown was named director of the new master’s degree in social journalism at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She has been serving as an associate professor of journalism at the University of Memphis in Tennessee.

Dr. Brown is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She holds a master’s degree in communication from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri.

frommePetra Fromme, professor of chemistry and biochemistry at Arizona State University, has been assigned the additional responsibility of directing the Center for Applied Structural Discovery at the university. Her research focuses on developing ways to mimic photosynthesis in plants as a renewable energy source.

Dr. Fromme holds a Ph.D. from the Technical University of Berlin in Germany.

KirklandTammy Kirkland was named an instructor in teacher education and director of the World Class Teaching Program at the University of Mississippi. Since 2003, she has been an elementary school teacher.

Kirkland holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Mississippi.

asselinBonnie Asselin, an associate professor of literature and language at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia, was granted tenure. She has been a member of the faculty at the college since 2009.

Dr. Asselin holds a master’s degree in English from the University of Massachusetts and a Ph.D. in English from Northeastern University in Boston.

Courtenay G. Miller was named assistant professor of education at the College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick. She was an instructor of mathematics at Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development in Sharonville, Ohio.

Dr. Miller holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Kentucky. She earned a doctorate in mathematics curriculum and instruction at the University of Louisville.
