In Memoriam: Majorie Jean Spurrier Sirridge, 1921-2014

Sirridge-MarjorieMajorie Sirridge, the former dean of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, died late last month at North Kansas City Hospital. She was 92 years old.

A native of Kingman, Kansas, she graduated from Kansas State University at the age of 20. In 1944, she graduated first in her class at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. While raising a family, Dr. Sirridge conducted medical research, particularly in the field of hematology, at the University of Kansas.

In 1971, Dr. Sirridge left the University of Kansas to become one of the founding faculty of the new University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. There, she established the highly successful Program for Women in Medicine in 1983.

Dr. Sirridge was named dean of the medical school in 1997 and served in that role for two years. She was named professor emerita in 2005 but continued to teach courses at the medical school until she was 90 years old.
