Julia Gohlke, an assistant professor in the School of Public Health at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, has been selected to receive the 2014 F. Clarke Fraser New Investigator Award from the Teratology Society. The organization acts as an information clearinghouse and research organization on birth defects and other developmental disorders. Dr. Gohlke is being honored for her research on the relationship between heat waves and pre-term births. She will receive the award at the Teratology Society’s annual meeting in Bellevue, Washington, where she will lecture on “Building a Rewarding Career at the Intersection of Research and Policy.”
Dr. Gohlke is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where she majored in biology. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in environmental health from the University of Washington. Dr. Gohlke has taught at the University of Alabama-Birmingham since 2011.
