Five Women Announce Their Retirement From Higher Education Posts

levickCheryl Levick, the director of athletics at Georgia State University, has announced that she will leave her post on July 1. She has been athletics director for the past five years. Levick will continue on at the university as a special assistant to the university’s president.

Levick is a graduate of the University of Missouri. She holds a master’s degree from Indiana University.

terry_arendellTerry Arendell, professor of sociology at Colby College in Maine, is retiring after 20 years at the leading liberal arts institution. Professor Arendell is the editor of the book Contemporary Parenting: Challenges and Issues (Sage Publications, 1997).

Professor Arendell holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. She did postdoctoral research at the National Institute on Aging.

Margaret Campbell Merrill, College Librarian, Agriculture & Life Sciences.Margaret C. Merrill is retiring from her post as librarian for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech. She will assume the title of assistant professor emerita. She has been on the staff at the university since 1997.

Merrill is a graduate of Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She holds master’s degrees from the University of Denver and the University of Georgia.

KnappGillian Knapp was named professor emerita of astrophysical sciences at Princeton University in New Jersey. She joined the university as a research astronomer in 1980 and became an associate professor in 1984. Earlier in her career, she taught at the University of Maryland and conducted research at the California Institute of Technology

Dr. Knapp is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh. She holds a Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of Maryland.

katzJudy Katz, professor of English at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, has announced her retirement and has been honored with emerita status. Professor Katz was named to the full-time faculty at the college in 1991. She has been a leader in the women’s studies program at the college.

Professor Katz is a graduate of the City College on New York. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University.
