Mary Marchant, a professor of agricultural and applied economics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Southern Agricultural Economics Association.
Professor Marchant holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D. in agricultural economics, all from the University of California, Davis.
Cristal C. Truscott, chair of the department of music and theater in the Marvin D. and June Samuel Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences at Prairie View A&M University in Texas, received the 2014 Doris Duke Artist Impact Award from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Dr. Truscott was honored for the creation of a new form of a capella musicals called “Neo-Spirituals.”
Dr. Truscott is an assistant professor and serves as director of the theater program. She previously taught in the drama and religious studies departments at Spelman College in Atlanta. Dr. Truscott holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, all from New York University.
Carol Lancaster, dean emerita of the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., will have a graduate scholarship program named in her honor at the university. The university’s board of visitors has established a fund that will provide scholarships for students in the master’s degree program in global human development.
Dean Lancaster first joined the faculty at Georgetown in 1981, after serving in a number of government posts, including assistant secretary of state for Africa
