Four Women Named to Prestigious Faculty Positions

Sally Haslanger, a professor of philosophy, was named to the Ford Chair in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Professor Haslanger joined the faculty at MIT in 1998. Her most recent book is Resisting Reality: Social Construction and Social Critique (Oxford University Press, 2012).

Professor Haslanger is a graduate of Reed College in Portland, Oregon. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of California at Berkeley.

Pamela Schultz was named to the Elisa E. and Antonio H. Enriquez Professorship in the School of Nursing at New Mexico State University. She is the director of the School of Nursing and associate dean for the College of Health and Social Services at the university.

Professor Schultz’s research focuses on oncology and violence against women. She holds a Ph.D. from Texas Woman’s University.

Alison Wilson was appointed the inaugural holder of the Skewes Family Chair for Trauma at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. Dr. Wilson joined the faculty at West Virginia University in 2002.

Dr. Wilson received her medical education at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

Cynthia Johnston Turner will join the faculty at the University of Georgia this fall as director of bands. She currently is director of wind ensembles at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She has been on the Cornell faculty since 2004.

Dr. Turner is a graduate of Queens University in Kingston, Ontario. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Victoria in British Columbia and a doctoral degree in conducting from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in New York.
