Linda LeMura to Be Named the First Laywoman President of a Jesuit College

Linda-LeMuraLe Moyne College in Syracuse, New York, a Jesuit institution that enrolls about 2,400 full-time undergraduate students and more than 400 graduate students, has selected Linda LeMura to be its 14th president, subject to final approval by the board of trustees. When she takes off she will be the first laywoman to lead a Jesuit college in the United States. Two other women have led Jesuit colleges but they were sisters of the Catholic Church. When she takes office, Dr. LeMura will be the ninth layperson among the 28 Jesuit college presidents in the United States.

Since 2009, Dr. LeMura has been provost at the college. She is a native of Syracuse and earned her bachelor’s degree at Niagara University. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in applied physiology from Syracuse University.
