Gabriella Carini has been named director of the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source. She will also hold a faculty appointment as a professor in the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in the Cornell Duffield College of Engineering. Dr. Carini has held leadership roles at the Brookhaven National Laboratory and at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory for more than two decades. Most recently, she was associate laboratory director for discovery technologies at Brookhaven.
Dr. Carini earned an undergraduate degree and a Ph.D. in electronic engineering from the University of Palermo in Italy.
Angel Jones is a new assistant professor in the doctoral program in educational leadership at the University of Washington Tacoma. Dr. Jones is a critical race scholar whose work focuses on microaggressions, racial battle fatigue, and anti-Blackness in the Latine community. She is the author of Street Scholar: Using Public Scholarship to Educate, Advocate, and Liberate (Peter Lang International Publishers, 2022).
Dr. Jones is a graduate of Syracuse University in New York, where she majored in political science. She holds a master’s degree in school counseling from Georgia State University and a Ph.D. in education from George Washington University.
Kira Reed was named special assistant to the chancellor for community impact at Syracuse University. In this role, Dr. Reed, an associate professor of management in the Whitman School of Management and a research associate with the Lender Center for Social Justice, will chair a cross-campus committee charged with conducting an assessment of the impact the university’s faculty, staff, and students have on the City of Syracuse and the broader Central New York communities. Dr. Reed’s research centers on the intersection of the external political environment, gender, and corporate social responsibility.
Dr. Reed is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she majored in finance. She holds an MBA in management, marketing, and organization behavior from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and a Ph.D. in management with an emphasis on strategic management from the University of Connecticut.
Alicia B. Batson has joined the faculty of Meharry Medical College in Nashville as an associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and medical director of the Meharry Behavioral Health Clinic. Dr. Batson comes to her new appointment with more than 20 years of experience across a wide range of mental health care settings. She specializes in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder, depressive disorders, and anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, and phobias.
Dr. Batson earned a bachelor’s degree in European studies from Vanderbilt University in Nashville and a medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She completed a combined residency in internal medicine and psychiatry at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
