Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

Harvard University received a $300,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for the expansion of a digital archive and the establishment of a website relating to the social and cultural history of women during the Qajar Dynasty in Iran from 1785 to 1925.

Smith College, the highly rated liberal arts institution for women in Northampton, Massachusetts, received a $168,751 grant from the Henry P. Kendall Foundation to support the college’s efforts to develop sustainable, local, and healthy food practices.

Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, received a three-year, $605,000 grant from the National Science Foundation for a research project examining the role of women in the production and trade of textiles products across the North Atlantic from the time of Vikings to the early 1800s. The research will be under the direction of Michele Hayeur Smith, a research associate at Brown University’s Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology.

Southern Illinois University received a grant from the Plastic Surgery Foundation to study fat grafting in breast reconstruction for cancer patients. The research is under the direction of Abigail Cochran, a fourth-year plastic surgery resident at the university’s School of Medicine in Springfield. Dr. Cochran is a graduate of Siena College in Loudonville, New York. She earned her medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
