Eight Women Taking on New Administrative Roles in Higher Education

Jan-BondJan Bond was appointed associate vice president of marketing and communication at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. Bond was the executive director of marketing and communications at Ashland University in Ohio and was vice president of marketing and communications at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

Bond is a graduate of the Art Academy of Cincinnati. She holds an MBA and has completed her doctoral course work at Florida Atlantic University.

Leanne_WirkkulaLeanne Wirkkula is the new chief of staff to the president at the University at Albany of the State University of New York system. For the past year, she has worked as an organizational consultant. Previously, she held several posts at the University of Minnesota including assistant dean for strategic and academic initiatives at the business school and assistant to the provost.

Dr. Wirkkula holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree in educational policy, and a Ph.D. in organizational leadership, policy, and development, all from the University of Minnesota.

dahlMargaret Wagner Dahl was named associate vice president for health informational technology at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. She is the former director of the Georgia BioBusiness Center, a business incubator operated by the University of Georgia.

Dahl is a graduate of the National University of Ireland in Kildare where she majored in sociology and geography.

FaulknerJacqueline A. Faulkner is the new vice chancellor for student affairs at Arkansas State University Newport. She was the assistant vice president for retention management and advising services at Kentucky State University in Frankfort. Earlier in her career, Faulkner was the director of the Center for Academic Retention and Enrichment Services at the University of Memphis.

Faulkner is a graduate of Jackson State University in Mississippi, where she majored in English. She holds a master’s degree in leadership and policy studies and has completed coursework for an educational doctorate at the University of Memphis.

KARMANOS CANCER INSTITUTE MARGARET DIMONDMargaret Dimond was named president of the Karmanos Cancer Hospital in Detroit, which has a working partnership with the Wayne State University School of Medicine. She was president and CEO of the McLaren Medical Group and is the former assistant dean of finance and administration for the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University.

Dr. Dimond is a graduate of St. Mary’s College and the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. She also holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Michigan and a master of social work degree from Boston College.

loribakerlloydLori Baker-Lloyd was named executive director for University Organizational and Professional Development at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg. She has been serving as vice president for global human resources programs at the Bank of N. T. Butterfield in Bermuda.

A native of Roanoke, Virginia, Baker-Lloyd is a graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C.

FleckRachel Fleck was promoted to assistant dean of external relations for the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University in Houston, Texas. She was the director of development at the business school. Before coming to Rice in 2011, she was a development and alumni relations officer at the University of Michigan.

Fleck is a graduate of Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant.

lupiCarla Lupi, assistant dean for learning and teaching and an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the College of Medicine at Florida International University in Miami, was appointed to the National Board of Medical Examiners. The board is a not-for-profit organization that develops and administrates the United States Medical Licensing Examination.

Dr. Lupi is a graduate of Stanford University and earned her medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco.
