Finalists for Provost at George Mason University

George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, has selected four finalists for the position of provost and executive vice president. All four candidates will visit the George Mason campus during February for interviews and presentations. Two of the four finalists are women.
Diane Chase is the executive vice provost for academic affairs and professor of anthropology at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Her research focuses on the Mayan civilization in Central America. Dr. Chase holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in anthropology from University of Pennsylvania.
Suzanne Austin is the vice provost for student and faculty success at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Before joining the staff at UAB, Dr. Austin served on the history department faculty and in several administrative posts at the University of Delaware. Her research focuses on the history of disease in Latin America. Dr. Austin is a graduate of North Carolina State University in Raleigh. She holds a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and a Ph.D. in history from Duke University.
