Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

West Virginia University received a three-year, $300,000 grant from the Office of Violence Against Women of the U.D. Department of Justice. The grant will fund domestic and dating violence prevention programs on campus.

Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, received a $246,440 grant from the Henry Luce Foundation for programs to increase the number of women in the physical sciences and mathematics. The funds will establish the Clare Boothe Luce Research Scholars program at the college which will fund summer fellowships for three cohorts of eight women after their sophomore and junior years in college.

Smith College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution for women in Northampton, Massachusetts, received a $100,000 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for research on health issues in the developing world. The research will focus on the detection of parasites that cause lymphatic filariasis.
