The gender pay gap in earnings stubbornly exists. Kim Weeden, professor of sociology a Cornell University and Youngjoo Cha at Indiana University, have produced research which shows that one of the major factors in the gap is that men tend to “overwork” compared to women. Overwork is defined as working 50 or more hours per week.
Professor Weeden states “Women – even highly educated women – still spend far more time than men on housework and child care. These dynamics in the household carry over into a gender gap in who puts in long work hours.”
